Races

Race 1: Australia summary

It was a wild season opener! Several crashes before the race really even got going, and then several more along the way. Impressive drives from Antonelli and Albon! Exciting start to the season and some competitive looking teams.

Only Leslie got Doohan outperforming Hadjar (even if it was only by half a lap). Everyone picked McLaren to score more than Ferrari. Nobody got the Piastri finish placement after his unfortunate late race mistake. Nobody got the podium question, with Russell scoring a surprise 3rd place finish.

Sprint Race: China summary

What a showing for Hamilton! Ran away with it from the start, looking like a resurgence of the Hamilton of days past. McLaren looked uncharacteristically out of form.

We had a good mix of responses across the group.

Race 2: China summary

A relatively tame race after the mess in Australia. Piastri stayed in control to convert the pole to win. Albon briefly led the race, which is another good sign for Williams. Afterwards the surprise double disqualification of Ferrari was a blow and drops them down to 5th behind Williams.

Only Matt called Leclerc and Russell outperforming their teammates. Only Nick guessed the fastest pit stop to go to Ferrari.

Race 3: Japan summary

Not too much to say about this race. Everyone kept it clean, and pretty minimal overtaking. Yuki was able to drag the Red Bull up to 12th while Max dominated for the win.

Congrats to Nick for leading the scores on this race! There was a good mix of responses to all questions except everyone picked some team to have a retirement.

Race 4: Bahrain summary

This was a much more exciting exciting race than last week! No crashes but plenty of on-track action, overtakes, penalties, and drama. Piastri dominated his 50th race from the beginning, but the rest of the points scorers had quite the fight. A rare poor showing from Max who just couldn’t get the car working today.

There were many questions that everyone picked the same answer for – winner, Doohan finish, Tsunoda finish, and red flag – so I’ll have to make them more challenging next time. Only Samantha got the time between 1st and 2nd, and only Matt called the Haas outscoring Williams (somehow??). Lots of good points for everyone this week!

Race 5: Saudi Arabia summary

Another strong race from Piastri after some turn 1 drama with Max. Norris had an impressive charge up from 10th. Tsunoda and Gasly had a surprise exit in an otherwise clean race after a lap 1 tangle between the BFF’s. Another good showing for Williams scoring more points.

There was a good range of responses on most questions. Nobody got Russell’s finish correct, with the late charges from Norris and Leclerc. Only Joanie got the 10th finisher correct!
